What I do around here

April 9th, 2007

So I’m as pleased as punch because we’re actually getting into the very first thing that justified my existence around here. Riess needed help with dialogue and I said “You know I’m about the last person you want to ask for help with that,” and he said “No, I know what I want them to say, I just don’t know how they should say it.” And I think my eyes might have glowed. I suck at the big picture. I might have cool ideas but I never know what the goal of a story I’m writing is. So it kind of founders and then I lose interest and forget it. Details are my strength. Given the chance I will bore you to tears with details.

Riess has a big picture here, and I’m helping out with the small picture, getting the characters from one place to another and helping decide what those places are. I helped write this scene, and Riess was pleased enough to take me on as a coauthor. Since then we’ve come up with a lot of other ideas which are awesome but I’m somewhat pained to realize probably aren’t going to be drawn until 2009. I think there was talk of apprenticing me to help with the illustration in some respect simply to speed things up but I think that might simply be terribly ambitious on my part.

Anyway, back to the art, I mean, Science.
