It is a rite among the various prides in the region that in order for a female to have a litter, she must first prove herself as a warrior by killing one of the giant crawlers in close combat. The variously shaped energy blades particular to the secretive Qitta are well suited to the purpose, as they easily slice through the chitinous carapace of their adversaries.
The more far-ranging affiliations of prides which presumably do not possess the facilities to manufacture or maintain these blades allow their females to kill by any means they see fit (usually with rifles), although the prides in which females frequently rely on cunning traps suffer poor relations with those of the homelands.
